Our neurodiversity signs and what they mean

The concept of neurodiversity refers to the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in a variety of ways; there is no one "right" way of thinking, learning, or behaving, and differences are not viewed as deficits. In celebration of our differences, and in the hope of empowering all types of brains, Cali & Caro have thoughtfully put together collections that are neurodiverse friendly.

The term neurodiversity refers to all people's diversity, but it is most commonly used in the context of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other neurological or developmental conditions such as ADHD or learning disabilities.

What is neurodiversity?

The variation or diversity of cognitive functioning in people. Everyone has a different brain, which means they have different skills, abilities, and needs.

What does it mean to be neurodivergent?

A neurodivergent person behaves, thinks, and learns differently than a neurotypical person. This term can be used to describe an individual whose brain functions differently to what we consider "normal". Here, at Cali & Caro, we believe there is no such thing as “normal”!

Specifically though, neurodivergent includes individuals with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and a variety of other neurodiverse conditions. ADHD, Autism, Dyspraxia, and Dyslexia are all neurodiverse conditions that fall within the "Neurodiversity" spectrum.

Cali & Caro transitioning to design thoughtful stationery made for neurodiversity

We’re making a stance to empower all types of people - empowering those who struggle with the right tools is what we are doing. We’re creating lines of stationery and tools that will help people with ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Anxiety, or people who enjoy sensory objects. Our product range includes notebooks, journals, wellness items, sensory objects and more all catered to be neurodiversity inclusive. Below you will find symbols which will help you identify the items in our store that are ADHD friendly, Autism Friendly, Dyslexia friendly, Sensory friendly and Anxiety Friendly. Together we look at each symbol and what it stands for:

Autism Friendly Stationery and Tools

If you are looking for autism friendly assistive stationery and tools, then you’re in luck - We’re busy working behind-the-scenes on adding more stationery items dedicated to individuals who identify themselves as autistic. We understand that people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often have difficulties with reading comprehension, frequently misinterpreting complex texts, metaphors, and idioms. Autistic people sometimes need support in processing tasks and using a journal/workbook is a great way to do that! Any product with this yellow label has been designed with ADHD and Neurodivergents in mind.

Dyslexia Friendly Stationery

If you have any suggestions, please feel free to email us at caliandcaro@luckydig.com.

ADHD Friendly Stationery and Tools

Our ADHD stationery and tools are covered with a blue butterfly as it resonated with many, symbolizing how ADHD minds typically flit from one thing to the next. We’re still adding more products in our ADHD category so be sure to keep checking back to see what we’ve launched with ADHD in mind.

Anxiety Friendly Stationery and Tools

According to an APA study, writing can help to relieve stress by combating negative and intrusive thoughts. We understand that many of us experience some level of anxiety so we seek to create a full range dedicated to relieve those anxious feelings.

Sensory Friendly Stationery and Tools

Sensory tools are designed to promote regulation, improve focus, and increase participation, allowing your child to be ready to learn!
